'No Child Left Behind' CCS waiver information
In May, 2012, Ohio was granted a waiver from portions of the federal education law known as 'No Child Left Behind' or NCLB. Under the waiver, CCS is no longer required to offer Supplemental Educational Services (SES) or Public School Choice (PSC).
School choice will still be offered through the lottery process. Current students admitted using the NCLB school choice option can continue through their highest grade at that building.
Beginning in the 2012-2013 school year, eligible schools will offer the following interventions and supports in place of the SES option:
1. Extended learning opportunities will be available at the school site for additional instruction in reading and mathematices.
2. The district offers reading tutoring at the elementary and middle school levels. In high school, a supplemental reading course is being offered to 9th and 10th grade students.
3. Also for high school students, tutoring is available prior to the March administration of the OGT. Credit-recovery programs using an on-line curriculum are accessible at every school site.
4. Building level professional development and the implementation of school improvement plans will be assisted by district staff.
