Relationship Week Begins with Hello
Relationship Week Banner
Relationships start with a simple hello. From February 5 - 9, Columbus City Schools celebrates its 2nd Annual Relationship Week with activities planned across the District to spotlight the improving climate and culture in our buildings.

Students and staff will share positive messages, reach out to those who need support, convey gratitude and kindness, and offer thanks to the supportive structures and community connections that add to safe, nurturing, supportive, and thought-provoking learning environments we have today. The goal of this celebration is to empower our young people to create and build upon the culture of inclusion and connectedness within our schools and across our community.

Highlighting the week will be the “Start With Hello” celebration organized by Sandy Hook Promise, the national nonprofit based in Newtown, Connecticut, by several family members whose loved ones were lost in the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary. They are focused helping young people develop the social-emotional skills they need to reach out to and include those who may be dealing with chronic social isolation. Visiting our Champion Middle School on Wednesday morning will be Mark Barden, Managing Director of Sandy Hook Promise and father of 7-year-old Daniel Barden who was killed 2012 along with 19 of his first-grade classmates.

Think about it: offering a simple ‘hello’ can be the start to opening the mind and heart of young person who feels always left out and alone. To feel noticed and valued - instead of isolated and despondent - could be the difference in someone hurting themselves or others.
